The fitness system I want to tell you about in this review is Jason Ferrugia’s ‘Muscle Gaining Secrets’. This is a system that’s primarily targeted at skinny hardgainers who find it hard to put on muscle.

Now, there’s no shortage of muscle building systems out there for skinny hardgainers, but let me be the first to tell you that this one is different. Why? Because it’s written by a guy (Jason) who first of all is a hardgainer himself, but more than this, he is a guy with over 20 years of experience in packing muscle on to scrawny bodies. That’s because he has been running his own gym (Renegade Gym in New Jersey) since 1994. This means his system is built on the experience of training and advising literally thousands of different people. Think about what that last sentence means, because while there are a lot of muscle building systems out there, there are very few that are built on the rock of that kind of experience.

Probably my favorite chapter was the one on the seven critical factors of a successful training plan. It’s pure gold – stick to this and you’ll never have a wasted gym session again. There’s also a chapter on every body part, workout plans for beginner / intermediate / advanced lifters, and of course the all-important chapter on nutrition for building mass.

One of the best things about Muscle Gaining Secrets is that both the Master Manual e-book and the private members’ download area are lean: there’s no ‘fluff’ to distract you from the essential facts and information you need to learn in order to get big. I think a lot of programs make the mistake of bombarding you with information, and for beginners this is just confusing. Along with the Master Manual, the other downloads are the Muscle Gaining Secret Workout Guide, nine different meal plans (from 2,000 calories up to 6,000 calories in 500-calorie increments), and another guide called The Exercise Database. There are a few other bits and pieces, but this is the core stuff, and it’s all great: lean; mean, and effective.

Besides the Master Manual, my favorite download from the private members’ area is The Exercise Database. This is a 56-page guide to all the most effective muscle-building exercises. There are over 100 entries in total, so if you’ve seen it done at a gym, it’s in here. It also has variations on every exercise for when you need to mix it up, tells you what the common mistakes are in performing each exercise, AND it includes a ton of pictures so you can see what good form looks like. I’ve read other exercise guides that just describe exercises in words without including pictures, and I don’t know how any beginner could understand them – you need pictures so you can see how to do things right.
